to do while visiting High Point, NC? This year water sport lovers will get the chance to watch hydrofoiling at its best. High Point will host the USHA National Hydrofoiling Championship.
Hydrofoiling is much like other water sports, such as, skiing or wake boarding. However, the way a hydrofoil is crafted is very different from skis or boards. A hydrofoil is made up of three major assemblies: a seat tower, a board, and a foil assembly. A hydrofoil is towed behind a watercraft, like a boat or jet ski. The rider of the hydrofoil will strap onto the seat tower and as speed is gained the rider must use delicate balance so that the board will actually lift off the surface of the water. The rider must steer the hydrofoil by moving their knees in the direction t
hey want to go. Because it takes so much concentration and balancing, a hydrofoil is very difficult to ride.
There will be a total of three special events at the National Hydrofoiling Championship:
- 3-trick
- Free ride
- Big air
The Hydrofoiling Championship will take place at Oak Hollow Festival Park at 3400 North Centennial Street, High Point, NC 27265 and is only a short drive from Ashford Suites High Point NC. Events begin Friday, July 20, 2012, and end on Sunday, July 22, 2012. The competition begins at 8 am and will last until 4 pm. Come out to see top riders from across the nation, and even around the world, compete.
