The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is just 10 miles from our hotel and is the powerhouse of many talented athletes that will continue their athletic career after college. UNCG basketball season just started with an exhibition game against Greensboro College on November 3. If the exhibition game win of 91-48 is any indicator of the 2011-2012 season, the team will go far in the conference. UNCG Spartans were chosen by a preseason poll to finish fourth in the Southern Conference North Division for the 2011-2012 season. The preseason poll was voted by a league of head coaches, which were not allowed to vote for their own team or athletes. Mike Dement, UNCG head coach, praises the team saying, “If those guys can play to that potential all year then I believe it will enhance our chances of competing at a higher level than we've been picked.”
The official season opener is an away game in Knoxville against the University of Tennessee on November 11, 2011, at 7:00pm. The Tennessee game will be televised on Fox Sports South and is just one of seven games that will be televised on national and regional outlets. T
he next home game is Thursday, November 17 against UNC Pembroke at 7:00pm. UNCG Spartans play at Greensboro Coliseum, just 9 miles from our hotel.
